My Testimony

I knew about Jesus, but my understanding of what He had done and of God's plan of salvation was still vague.

Early Years

I came from a family with a background in ancestral worship. Although I was allowed to attend Sunday school when I was young, I did not know much about Christianity. I knew about Jesus, but my understanding of what He had done and of God's plan of salvation for His people was still vague.

When I was in secondary school, I had some friends who were Christians. We would sometimes discuss religion, Christianity, and the meaning of life. However, as far as I can remember, no one really shared with me the true story of why Jesus came to earth and died on the cross.

Hearing the Gospel Clearly

I was born in Malaysia and came to Singapore for my university studies. During my first year, I stayed in a hostel where the Christian community was very active. I was invited to several Christian gatherings and fellowship meetings, and through these, I became more aware of Christianity.

One night, one of my hostel mates, Jeff, shared with me the story of Jesus and what He had done for me as a sinner. He showed me from the Word of God that because of my sins, I was separated from God:

"In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power." — 2 Thessalonians 1:8–9, KJV

He also showed me:

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." — Romans 3:23, KJV

I came to understand that I was not only separated from God, but also condemned because of my sin. The Bible says:

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." — Romans 6:23, KJV

"It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." — Hebrews 9:27, KJV

Jeff then explained God's plan of salvation to me. He showed me a verse I had come across many times before, but had never truly understood until then:

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." — John 3:16, KJV

He explained that salvation is not earned by good works, but received by faith in God's grace:

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." — Ephesians 2:8–9, KJV

The Decision

That night, I took the step of faith. I trusted God, prayed for the forgiveness of my sins, and accepted Jesus Christ into my life.

"But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name." — John 1:12, KJV

After that, I was invited to attend a Baptist church, where I later followed the Lord in baptism.

Growing in the Word

As a young Christian, I desired to grow spiritually in my walk with Christ. One of the greatest influences in my Christian life was the Navigators group. I was greatly encouraged by the leaders there, especially by their service to God and their deep knowledge of the Word of God. I began to read the Bible more faithfully and memorise Scripture verses, many of which have helped me through life's challenges and obstacles. Those verses remain with me even today.

His Faithfulness

Life as a Christian has not always been smooth, but God has promised:

"I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." — Hebrews 13:5, KJV

Shared with permission and thanksgiving for the Lord's faithful work in every life He touches.
