Casting Our Cares on the Caring Lord

Wednesday, 14 October 2026

Daily Verse

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” - 1 Peter 5:7, KJV

Thoughts for the Day

Your Cares, His Care

The Lord does not ask you to pretend that your burdens are light; He invites you to entrust them to Him because He cares for you. Today, bring Him the concern you keep turning over in your mind, and take your next step of obedience in dependence upon His faithful love.

Daily Devotion

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7, KJV. Some burdens are visible to others; many are carried quietly. We may be troubled by a family member, an uncertain future, a difficult responsibility, or a sorrow that returns when the day becomes still. Peter does not tell believers that such concerns are imaginary or that strong Christians never feel their weight. He directs us to the Lord who cares for His people. The invitation includes all our care—not merely the concerns we consider worthy of prayer. Nothing that troubles His children is beneath His attention. We may come honestly, without dressing our weakness in impressive words.

This invitation belongs to Peter’s instruction about humility under God’s mighty hand. Casting our care upon Him is therefore more than seeking a moment of emotional relief; it is an act of humble dependence. Anxiety can tempt us to behave as though everything rests upon our foresight, strength, or ability to control the outcome. Humility acknowledges that we are creatures, not the Lord of our circumstances. We still fulfil our duties, seek wise counsel, and make responsible decisions, but we surrender the claim that we must secure every result. Prayer is not a way of persuading God to follow our plan. It is a way of placing ourselves and our concerns under His wise and loving authority.

The reason Peter gives is wonderfully personal: “for he careth for you.” Our confidence rests not in the strength of our surrender, but in the character of the One receiving our burdens. God’s care does not promise an immediate end to every hardship. Peter writes to believers who know suffering, and the surrounding passage calls them to watchfulness and steadfast faith. Yet suffering does not mean that their Father has ceased to love them. At the cross, Christ bore our sins and opened the way for us to draw near to God. His resurrection assures us that suffering and death do not have the final word. The Saviour who gave Himself for us is not indifferent to the burdens we bring Him today.

Jim Elliot wrote, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” His words remind us that faith does not cling to earthly security as its highest treasure. We cannot preserve every comfort or guarantee every tomorrow, but in Christ we have a hope that cannot be taken away. Casting our cares means bringing a particular concern to the Lord, asking for what we need, and accepting that His answer may differ from our preference. When the concern returns, we can pray again rather than conclude that our first prayer failed. Today, name your burden before Him. Ask for wisdom to do what is yours to do, and grace to leave what you cannot govern in His hands. You are not asked to carry life alone.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that You care for me and welcome me through Jesus Christ. You know the concerns I speak about and the burdens I hide. Forgive me for trying to control what belongs in Your hands. Teach me to humble myself before You, to ask honestly for help, and to trust Your wisdom when I cannot see the way ahead. Give me courage to fulfil today’s responsibilities without treating their outcome as mine to command. When anxious thoughts return, draw me back to prayer and to the truth of Your Word. Help me also to care patiently for others who are burdened. Keep my hope anchored in Christ rather than in changing circumstances. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Walk in faith today

Write down one concern you are carrying, entrust it to the Lord in prayer, and take one faithful action within your responsibility while leaving the outcome in His hands.
