Possible with God

And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. These words were spoken after the rich young ruler went away sorrowful because he would not surrender his possessions and follow Christ. The disciples, astonished by the Lord's teaching, asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus did not answer by offering a better human method. He declared that salvation is impossible with men. No amount of wealth, discipline, religious effort, or outward respectability can free a sinner from guilt, give him a new heart, or make him righteous before God. Salvation belongs wholly to the Lord, and what sinful man cannot accomplish, God does by His grace.

This truth humbles us, but it also fills us with hope. We are not asked to manufacture spiritual life through determination or self-improvement. God delights to display His power where human strength has reached its end. He can awaken the spiritually dead, break the dominion of cherished sin, soften a hardened heart, restore a wandering believer, and bring the most unlikely person to repentance and faith. The gospel itself is the great testimony that God accomplishes the impossible. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, He justifies the ungodly who believe, reconciles sinners to Himself, and makes them new creatures. Therefore, no person is beyond the reach of His saving mercy.

Yet this promise must not be separated from God's character and will. “For with God all things are possible” does not mean that every personal ambition will be fulfilled or every difficulty removed exactly as we desire. It means that nothing required by God's holy purpose exceeds His wisdom, authority, or power. When obedience appears costly, when forgiveness seems beyond us, when ministry bears little visible fruit, or when a loved one's heart appears firmly closed, we must not measure God's ability by our limitations. We should bring the matter before Him, submit our desires to His will, and continue faithfully in what He has commanded. Our impossibility is not an obstacle to God; it is often the place where dependence upon Him becomes most sincere.

C. H. Spurgeon warned, “If you will not listen to God's Word, neither will God listen to your word when you come to Him in prayer.” Trust in God's power is never an excuse to disregard His Word. Genuine faith listens, submits, and obeys. We cannot cling stubbornly to our own way while asking God to bless it. Instead, we must allow Scripture to expose our idols, correct our thinking, and direct our steps. Bring your impossible burden to the Lord today, but also bring Him a yielded heart. Ask Him not merely to change your circumstances, but to change you. The God who alone can save is also able to supply grace for every act of obedience He requires.

Prayer

Almighty God, I confess that I often measure every difficulty by my own weakness and forget the greatness of Thy power. Thank Thee that salvation does not depend upon human merit, but upon Thy grace through Jesus Christ. Please search my heart, expose every idol, and make me willing to hear and obey Thy Word. Where I face what seems impossible, keep me from fear, unbelief, and self-reliance. Help me to submit my desires to Thy perfect will and to trust that nothing within Thy holy purpose is beyond Thy power. Save those who seem far from Thee, strengthen those who are weary, and accomplish in me what I could never accomplish alone. In Jesus' name, Amen.
