Place Every Care in His Hands

The Lord does not ask us to pretend that our burdens are small; He invites us to place them entirely in His hands. We may release every anxious care to Him because His love is personal, faithful, and attentive.

Daily Devotion

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” This gracious command does not deny that Christians experience pressure, uncertainty, sorrow, or fear. Our cares may concern family, health, work, finances, ministry, or decisions whose outcomes we cannot foresee. The Lord knows the weight of each burden before we speak of it, yet He lovingly calls us to bring it to Him. The word “casting” teaches deliberate surrender. We are not merely to mention our troubles while continuing to clutch them tightly; we are to place the full weight of them upon the Lord. Prayer becomes an act of humble dependence as we acknowledge that His wisdom, power, and faithfulness are greater than our ability to control what lies ahead.

The foundation of this command is found in its tender conclusion: “for he careth for you.” We cast our cares upon God not because our concerns are unimportant to Him, but because we ourselves are precious in His sight. His care is not distant, reluctant, or impersonal. He sees what others overlook, understands what we cannot adequately explain, and remains present when circumstances appear unchanged. Feelings may tell us that we are forgotten, but God’s character is more trustworthy than our changing emotions. The caring Lord does not promise to follow every plan we devise, yet He faithfully orders our steps according to His perfect wisdom. Surrender therefore means trusting not only His ability to act, but also His right to choose what is best.

Casting our cares upon the Lord is not passivity or neglect of duty. After praying, we should still obey what God has clearly placed before us. We may need to make a difficult call, seek wise counsel, confess a wrong, complete an assignment, serve someone in need, or patiently wait without forcing an answer. The difference is that we act from trust rather than from anxious self-reliance. Worry repeatedly takes tomorrow’s possibilities and carries them as though they were today’s responsibilities. Faith receives grace for the present day and leaves the unseen future with God. Because cares often return, surrender may need to be repeated. Each returning anxiety can become a fresh invitation to pray and to remember that the burden now rests in stronger hands.

Billy Graham said, “God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with.” We first receive the Lord’s mercy, comfort, and sustaining grace; then we are able to extend compassionate care to others. A heart relieved of anxious self-occupation becomes more available to notice a struggling neighbour, encourage a weary believer, or help carry another person’s burden. We cannot be the saviour of those around us, but we can faithfully direct them to the One who cares for them. Today, let us refuse both proud independence and hopeless worry. Let us bring every concern to our heavenly Father, receive His sufficient grace, perform the duty before us, and share His kindness with someone who needs to know that he or she is not forgotten.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank Thee that Thou dost know every burden I carry and that Thy care for me is faithful and personal. Forgive me for holding tightly to worries that I should place in Thy hands, and for trusting my own understanding more than Thy perfect wisdom. I cast upon Thee the concerns that trouble my heart today. Grant me grace to obey what Thou hast clearly given me to do, patience where I must wait, and faith when I cannot see the outcome. Fill me with Thy peace and make me attentive to others who are weary. Having received Thy comfort and mercy, help me to give encouragement, practical help, and loving care in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Walk in faith today

Write down the one concern weighing most heavily on you, pray specifically as you surrender it to the Lord, and then encourage or practically help one person who is carrying a burden today.
