The Sower and the Seed
Daily Verse
“Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:” - Mark 4:3, KJV
Thoughts for the Day
Sow Faithfully
Christ calls us to sow His truth faithfully, even when we cannot see what will come of it. Our responsibility is obedience; the results belong to God, who alone gives the increase.

Daily Devotion
Jesus begins this teaching with a simple command: “Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow:” The sower went out because seed must be scattered before there can be a harvest. This reminds us that the Word of God is not meant to be hidden within us. It is to be spoken faithfully, lived visibly, and entrusted to the work of the Holy Ghost in the hearts of others.
The sower does not control the soil. He cannot force a hearer to receive the truth, remove every hardness, or determine how deeply the seed will take root. Yet he still goes forth and sows. In the same way, we may teach a child, encourage a weary believer, share the gospel with a neighbour, or speak a needed word of truth to a friend. We may not see immediate repentance, growth, or gratitude. Still, faithful sowing is not wasted simply because the outcome is hidden from us.
There is a temptation to measure obedience by visible results. We may become discouraged when a conversation appears fruitless, when a ministry effort receives little response, or when those for whom we pray seem unchanged. But the Lord has not called us to manufacture results. He calls us to be faithful stewards of what He has given us. The seed remains His Word, and the power remains His. Our part is to sow with humility, patience, prayer, and love, leaving the harvest in His hands.
R. A. Torrey wrote, “Prayer is the key that unlocks all the storehouses of God's infinite grace and power.” Prayer keeps our sowing dependent upon God rather than confidence in our own skill. Before we speak, we can ask Him for wisdom; after we speak, we can entrust the hearer to His mercy; and while we wait, we can continue believing that He is able to work in ways we cannot observe. Today, let us sow faithfully—not seeking applause or immediate evidence, but desiring that Christ would be honoured and His truth received.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, make me a faithful sower of Thy truth. Give me courage to speak when I am tempted to remain silent, wisdom to know when to speak, and gentleness that reflects Thy love. Keep me from judging the value of obedience by the results I can see. Help me to pray for those who hear Thy Word and to trust Thee with their hearts. Remove discouragement, impatience, and fear from me, and make me diligent in every opportunity Thou dost provide. May the seed I sow point others to Christ, and may all the glory belong to Thee. Amen.
