The Steady Step of Faith
Daily Verse
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” - 2 Corinthians 5:7, KJV
Thoughts for the Day
Walking by Faith
Faith does not deny what the eyes can see, but it rests upon what God has spoken. When the path is unclear, the believer is called to trust the Lord’s character, obey His Word, and take the next step in humble dependence upon Him.
A Christian Voice
“Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God.” - William Carey
Daily Devotion
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” This short verse gives a clear description of the Christian life. The believer’s journey is not governed first by outward appearances, changing circumstances, or the strength of human understanding. We walk before God as those who have heard His Word, trusted His Son, and are learning daily to rest upon promises that are often unseen but never uncertain.
To walk by sight is to let visible conditions rule the heart. Sight asks, “How can this work? What if I lose? What if the way becomes harder?” Faith asks a better question: “What hath God said?” Faith is not carelessness, presumption, or pretending that difficulties do not exist. Rather, faith brings every difficulty under the authority of the living God. It remembers that the Lord who saved us by grace is also able to guide, keep, correct, and provide for us according to His will.
Walking by faith is usually not dramatic. It is often quiet obedience: forgiving when pride resists, praying when answers seem delayed, serving when few notice, speaking truth with charity, and continuing in holiness when compromise appears easier. Faith takes the next step because God is faithful, not because the whole road has been shown. William Carey’s words, “Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God,” are not a call to self-confidence, but to God-confidence. The greatness is in Him, not in us.
For church friends, Bible study groups, teachers, and every disciple of Christ, this verse is a steadying word. We teach, serve, labour, and endure with eyes lifted beyond the immediate scene. The Lord may not show us all that He is doing, but He has shown us enough in Christ to trust Him. Today, faith may look like one simple act of obedience carried out with prayerful dependence. The Christian walk is not a leap into darkness; it is a walk with the God who is light, whose Word is true, and whose grace is sufficient for every step.
Prayer
Lord God, teach me to walk by faith and not by sight. Forgive me for the times when I allow fear, visible circumstances, or my own understanding to rule my heart more than Thy Word. Help me to trust Thy promises, obey Thy commands, and follow Thee even when the way is not fully clear. Strengthen my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and make my life useful for Thy glory. Give me courage to expect great things from Thee and humility to attempt only what is pleasing in Thy sight. Keep my steps steady today, and let my confidence rest in Thee alone. Amen.
