Guarding the Tongue with Praise

A tongue filled with God's praise has little room left for finding faults in others.

A tongue filled with God's praise has little room left for finding faults in others.

The more we behold His mercy toward us, the less eager we become to expose the failures of our brethren. Worship softens the heart. Gratitude humbles the soul. Praise silences much of the criticism that pride loves to speak.

Before pointing out another's weakness, remember how patiently God bears with your own. Before magnifying another's faults, magnify His grace. The lips that continually bless God will be slower to wound men made in His image.

Spend less time examining your brother's imperfections and more time praising the perfection of Christ.

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” Ephesians 4:29, KJV

“Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.” Psalm 141:3, KJV

“Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.” James 3:10, KJV

Lord, fill my mouth with Your praise until there is no room for criticism. Set a watch before my lips. Let every word I speak minister grace to those who hear. Amen.
