A Lamp to My Feet, a Light to My Path

Daily Verse

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” - Psalm 119:105, KJV

Thoughts for the Day

Guided by the Light

God's Word is more than ancient wisdom—it is a lamp for our next step and a light for the whole path ahead. In a world of confusion and moral fog, the Scriptures give sure direction for those who trust and obey.

A Christian Voice

“Christ our Saviour is on the throne. The hands that were pierced with the nails of the cross wield the scepter. How can our salvation fail?” - B. B. Warfield

Daily Devotion

The psalmist did not have a floodlight, but a lamp. He walked ancient roads at night with a small oil lamp tied to his foot, just enough to see the next stone, the next hollow, the next step. That is how God's Word works. It does not always reveal the whole journey from start to finish — but it faithfully shows what we must do now. When we are uncertain about tomorrow, the Scripture is sufficient for today. When we cannot see around the bend, the Word illumines the step right in front of us.

The tragedy of our age is not that we lack information, but that we despise divine instruction. We have access to more Bibles, commentaries, and sermons than any generation before us, and yet we wander in self-made darkness because we refuse to let the Word rule us. We want a path without a light. We want guidance without surrender. But a lamp does no good if it is left on the shelf. The Word must be taken up, lit by the Spirit, and carried into the dark places of our lives — our decisions, our relationships, our secret thoughts.

Christ our Saviour is on the throne. The hands that were pierced with the nails of the cross wield the sceptre. How can our salvation fail? Warfield's question is no idle speculation. It is the triumphant confidence of every saint who has ever trusted the Word made flesh. Because the same God who spoke light into chaos has spoken life into our dead hearts through Christ. And if He has given us His Son, will He not also by His Word guide us safely home? The light of Scripture is not merely useful — it is the light of Christ shining through the pages of covenant history, promise, and command.

Brother and sister, do not treat your Bible as a talisman or a textbook. Treat it as a lamp for your feet. Open it before you act, not after. Let it correct you before the world conforms you. When the next step is unclear, there is no shame in stopping to read until the lamp shows the way. The Shepherd leads His sheep by His voice, and He speaks still through this written Word. Trust it. Obey it. Walk by it. The path may be narrow, but the light is sure.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You have not left us to stumble in darkness. Your Word is a sure lamp and a true light. Forgive us for the times we have walked by our own wisdom and neglected Your commands. Teach us to love the Scriptures not as a duty but as daily bread. By Your Spirit, illumine our minds and humble our hearts as we read. Help us to obey what we learn, to trust what we cannot yet see, and to follow Christ who is the Light of the world. Keep our feet from falling and our eyes fixed on Your truth, until we see You face to face. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Walk in faith today

Before making any decision today — even a small one — pause and ask: 'What does God's Word say about this?' Then obey what you already know before seeking new light.
