Bringing Every Care Before God

Monday, 25 May 2026

Daily Verse

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” - Philippians 4:6, KJV

Thoughts for the Day

Prayer Instead of Anxious Care

The Lord does not call His people to carry anxious burdens as though we were alone. In every care, great or small, He invites us to come by prayer, with thanksgiving, and make our requests known unto Him.

A Christian Voice

“God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with.” - Billy Graham

Daily Devotion

Philippians 4:6 gives a clear and gracious command: "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." The word "careful" speaks of anxious care, the kind of inward burden that divides the heart and troubles the mind. The Lord is not teaching us to be careless, irresponsible, or indifferent to real needs. Rather, He is calling us away from worry as a way of life and into the holy privilege of prayer. The believer is not asked to deny trouble, but to bring trouble into the presence of God.

Anxiety often grows when we rehearse our problems without remembering the Lord. We may turn matters over again and again in our own thoughts, imagining outcomes, fearing losses, or trying to control what belongs in God’s hands. But the verse says, "in every thing." Nothing is too small to bring before Him, and nothing is too great for Him to bear. Prayer is not a last resort after fear has exhausted us; it is the appointed path for God’s children. Supplication teaches us to ask humbly and specifically, acknowledging our need. Thanksgiving teaches us to remember His past mercies, His present faithfulness, and His unchanging character.

This prayerful trust does not mean every circumstance will immediately become easy. Sometimes the burden remains, the answer waits, and the trial continues. Yet the heart that prays is no longer alone with its care. We are speaking to the Father who knows what we need, the Lord who is wise in all His ways, and the Saviour who has already shown His love at the cross. Thanksgiving in prayer is an act of faith: it says that God is worthy of trust before the answer is seen. It helps us receive from His hand with humility and give to others with grace. As Billy Graham said, "God has given us two hands, one to receive with and the other to give with." The soul that receives mercy from God is strengthened to show mercy, patience, and encouragement to others.

For church friends, Bible study groups, homes, workplaces, and quiet personal struggles, this verse is deeply practical. The Lord invites us to name our requests before Him, not because He lacks knowledge, but because He desires fellowship, dependence, and trust. Today’s anxious care may concern family, health, work, ministry, finances, decisions, or the spiritual condition of someone we love. We do not have to pretend these concerns are light. But we must not let them become our master. Let every care become a call to prayer. Let every request be carried with thanksgiving. Let the heart learn again that God is near, God hears, and God is faithful.

Prayer

Our gracious Father, I confess that my heart is often quick to worry and slow to trust. Forgive me for carrying burdens as though I must bear them alone. Teach me to bring every concern before Thee in prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving. Help me to remember Thy past mercies and to rest in Thy faithful care today. Give me wisdom for my responsibilities, patience in unanswered matters, and peace in the midst of uncertainty. Make me humble enough to receive from Thy hand and willing enough to give encouragement and help to others. Keep my heart fixed upon Thee through Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.

Walk in faith today

Write down one specific concern that is weighing on your heart today, pray over it honestly with thanksgiving, and entrust it to the Lord before taking the next faithful step.
