From Conviction to Compromise to Apostasy

The steady decline of a people rarely begins with open rebellion. It almost always begins with compromise.

The steady decline of a people rarely begins with open rebellion. It almost always begins with compromise.

First comes the generation of conviction

They know the Lord, fear His name, cherish His Word, and walk in His ways. They have witnessed His mighty acts, tasted revival, and faithfully pass the truth to their children.

Then comes the generation of compromise

They inherit the blessings of their fathers but not their convictions. They retain the language of faith while slowly surrendering its substance. What their fathers resisted, they begin to tolerate. What once troubled their conscience becomes acceptable.

Then comes the generation of apostasy

They neither know the Lord nor value His ways. The truths that guided their fathers are forgotten, and the sins their fathers feared are celebrated. They do not reject God's standards because they have carefully examined them; they reject them because they no longer know them.

One generation tolerates sin.

The next celebrates it.

The generation after that does not even recognise it as sin.

The battle for truth is never merely about us. It is about those who come after us. Every compromise today becomes a stumbling block for tomorrow.

"And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel." - Judges 2:10, KJV

Lord, grant us grace to stand firm, to walk faithfully, and to pass on an uncompromised faith to the generations that follow.
